About Bruce Andrews
Since immigrating to America in 1997, Bruce Andrews MacDonald has worked in the fields of advertising, fashion, furniture manufacturing and interior design, each of the disciplines bringing the entrepreneur a particular 360-degree view of aesthetics. With the launch of his eponymous firm Bruce Andrews Design in 2014, the enterprising professional took the step of realizing the long-held dream to manufacture bespoke furniture of impeccable quality. Refusing to compromise by sending production overseas, he was determined to build his furniture in the United States, and to be one of the country’s catalysts for bringing quality and craftsmanship back to America’s shores.
Design distinction has a sumptuous new point of view, and it is made in America.
The initial result of this aspiration is Collection Skye, born of his heritage. Design notes of the products in this initial release are inspired by historically significant furnishings he remembers placed commandingly within the interiors of a manor house nestled into the craggy cliffs of the Isle of Skye, owned by his grandfather James. The Azure Collection, inspired by the coastal climes of his native South Africa. The Dune Collection, the third to be released, has design notes inspired by the enigmatic continent of Africa.
In 2017, the Bruce Andrews Curated line was released, a division of Bruce Andrews Design that produces high-quality furniture sold in sophisticated boutiques established by discriminating designers and retailers.
His commitment to creating a “Made in America” brand influenced him to seek out frame manufactures in Massachusetts and North Carolina, who produce the furniture from American kiln-dried maple. Design details include legs made of oak, African mahogany, alder, walnut or rosewood—the ferrules on the feet made by a jeweler in Rhode Island. Nailhead trim on the furniture is added in Los Angeles, and, finally, the chairs are assembled in North Carolina—one of the long-held seats of America’s furniture-industry power before Asian imports became the norm. These elements coalesce to contribute to the sumptuous feel of the pieces.
In development are several other limited edition collections with an array of influences, a number of them, like Collection Skye, representative of the CEO’s heritage.
Legacy is a powerful word, one that Bruce Andrews is determined to have characterize the American furniture industry once again.
